12 Exposures was a self-published project created in response to a group trip to Amsterdam. It features a curated selection of black-and-white photographs I took during the visit, capturing quiet moments, urban textures and interactions that reflected the tone and rhythm of the city.
The design of the zine was built around visual elements collected during the trip - fragments of signage, ephemera and notes - which were reinterpreted into a cohesive, Swiss graphic language. The layout draws inspiration from the format of a contact sheet, presenting sequences of images in a way that emphasises process, rhythm and narrative flow. These elements helped root the design in the lived experience of the journey, creating a sense of place that extends beyond the photographs alone.
The zine was intended to function as more than just a document of the trip - it acts as a standalone object and piece of visual storytelling. Rather than focusing on traditional captions or travelogue formats, I allowed the imagery and design choices to speak for themselves, offering an open-ended and timeless entry point into the atmosphere of the city.
I also designed the flyer for the fanzine fair where this zine was sold, alongside a range of other self-published works and printed matter. Drawing inspiration from Swiss graphic design - a fitting reference, as this fanzine fair was a celebration of Swiss design and paid homage to their design principles.
